Kanye West Yells at Handicap Fan in Wheelchair

Kanye’s in the news for doing something unrelated to music, what a surprise. Whether it’s getting into it with paparazzi, throwing tantrums or punching people, Mr. Kardashian always keeps it interesting. This time he was performing in Sydney and asked the crowd to stand up before his next song. There were a few members of the audience who are handicapped, which Kanye didn’t seem to take into account when he noted “This the longest I’ve had to wait to do a song…it’s unbelievable”. Then thought out loud that they might be in a wheelchair. He was right.

This isn’t the first time he’s done something crazy. We all remember Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift’s VMA speech(launching her career). My favorite has to be his interview on Sway in the Morning, where he repeatedly told Sway that Sway didn’t have the answers. His interview on The Breakfast Club where Charlemagne calls him “Mr. Kardashian” and a hypocrite is the runner up.

Kanye isn’t even the first musician to mistake a fan in a wheelchair for an unenthused fan. Dee Synder of Twisted Sister suffered the same awkward fate at Hellfest 2013.

We’ve all made mistakes at some point, and most of us are pretty lucky their mishaps don’t make front page news. This was blown way out of proportion, but it is funny seeing Kanye West in the news screaming at someone who isn’t you.

Music Festivals Gone Wrong

Ultra Music Festival Closed
Miami Mayor Shuts Down Ultra Music Festival

The Woodstock Music & Art Fair in 1969 was one of the first big music festivals. Now remembered as a historic event and one of the top 50 moments of rock and roll according to Rolling Stone, it started a trend that has continued grow in popularity. Present day, festival organizers have a responsibility to ensure a safe and fun experience for attendees while also trying to make a profit. Weather also is a factor, especially this year, as evident below.

Festivals can encounter other problems that don’t pertain to weather. The Ultra Music Festival might have to find another location in 2015 after Miami mayor Tomás Pedro Regalado accused the festival of not providing enough security after a group of gate-crashers trampled a security guard.

2014 Made In America Rain Delay

Sometimes festival organizers can’t do everything. I’ve had a good amount of experience with music festivals, and the crowd can take people out of the moment. With the increase in popularity, more and more future attendees look at it as a party or social event rather than a concert. For too many it’s evident that it’s about the drugs or friends you bring that make the festival. Call me old fashion, I think a music festival should be about the music.
