DC-bred and Brooklyn-based MC/producer Oddisee has made a name for himself through the years with his flowing unfeigned lyricism and transcendent instrumental medleys. His lengthy musical history ranges from his part as one-third of The Diamond District all way through a billowing series of instrumental and rap records.
Oddisee’s music is a shining paradigm of every artist’s effort to produce rhythms that reflect their emotional energy and background. His work continues to effortlessly capture his Washington D.C. upbringing, a midpoint of the nation’s surging underground hip hop scene. In 2010, the Washington Post praised his Odd Spring mixtape in their Best Local Hip-Hop Mixtape category, and his predominantly instrumental album Rock Creek Park in 2011 continues to remain as his most celebrated project.
“THE ODD TAPE IS MEANT TO BE A “DAY IN THE LIFE” PIECE SET TO AUDIO. EACH TRACK IS THE THEME MUSIC TO MY ROUTINE. “BORN BEFORE YESTERDAY” TAKES ITS TITLE FROM THE DAILY PROPOSALS I RECEIVE THAT QUESTION INTELLIGENCE IN WAYS THAT ONLY THE MUSIC INDUSTRY CAN.” – ODDISEE
In this album, the rapper is focused on illustrating the rhythms of his daily life, which can be encapsulated by the first release off the album titled “No Cream No Sugar.” This week he has released a second single “Born Before Yesterday,” a more introspective offering that is illuminated by scattered drum and cymbal patterns and elusive, melodic chords.
Alongside The Odd Tape, out May 13th, Oddisee will also be touring internationally with his band Good Compny from May through July.
